Wow! It was so exciting seeing children proudly sharing their learning with their parents at 5 on the Hour Conferences. It is so good to have time to show the work we have been doing throughout the term. Please say a big THANK YOU to your parents for coming and enjoying it with you.The art exhibition in the multi-purpose room looks colourful and lots of people were very impressed with the wonderful art work.

Book Donations
It was very special to go with four school councillors to Ronald McDonald House and the playroom of the Children's ward at the hopsital to give them the books that had been donated for our Book Character Day. They were so excited to receive so many lovely books!
Part of Ronald McDonald House has been damaged in the earthquakes so they are only using half of the building. We got to see a room where families living at the house stay and a lounge and kitchen area. The room was just like a hotel room with a double and single bed, a bathroom and a place to make cups of tea.
At the hospital the nurse and play specialists were very excited to have some lots of new books to share with the children who are in hospital. They were looking froward to having some new stories to read! They were overwhelmed with everyone's generosity!
Thank you everyone - you have made some sick children's day!

Book Character Day
What a fun way to come back to school after the earthquake. Everyone made such a big effort to dress up and looked great. Some people must have spent a lot of time getting ready.
It was very strange to meet with a new family looking like I did!

Writing
Over the last week I have enjoyed visiting classes and interviewing students about writing. It has been interesting to see the writing people are proud of and what they have been learning. It is important that we have a purpose for writing and an audience. Blogs are a great way of sharing ideas for others to read and comment on. Feedback on the things we do well and what we need to do to get better really help our writing. What types of writing do you enjoy doing? I'd love to hear your comments and ideas.

Literacy learning
I really enjoyed Room 9s role plays about literacy learning in assembly. There is so much great learning happening at Harewood! Remember not to say "nothing" if your parents ask what you've been doing at school!

Kitchen Chemistry
I enjoyed seeing some of the experiments happening during the science interchange. I heard some interesting words - reactions, explosions, permanent change, temporary change, solid, liquid, gas, prediction,....
What other new words have you been learning?

Grass
Have you noticed the new grass down the side of the path?
Do you know where it came from? A clue - the home of rugby in Christchurch. Yes, AMI stadium! Aren't we lucky to have a bit of the grass from this sports ground!

Working Bee
Thanks to everyone who helped at the working bee. Our school is looking fantastic! The weather was fantastic for being outside and we had a great time working together. The children who helped worked really hard so I hope you enjoy playing with your kites.
Rugby team
Congratulations to Miss Chisholm and the rugby team for doing well in the rugby fun day! I was pleased to hear how well you played as a team and what a bonus to win 3 games! It was exciting to have Andy Ellis come and cheer you on!

Entrance Way
Wow! Lots of work has been happening on our entrance way. Mr Martin and Mr and Mrs Corston have been very busy!
Did you enjoy walking down the wider path? At the moment we need to be careful not to block the path when we are waiting to be collected after school.
I think we all need to remember to keep left when we walk too - good practice for when we are big enough to go biking on the road!
Isn't it great to be back at school?

Harewood Heroes
Today we had our first pizza with the principal lunch for this terms Harewood Heroes. We had lots of fun. The Hawaiian pizza was the most popular and I was told to order more next time!
It was good to acknowledge these people who live our Harewood values.

5 on the Hour
On Wednesday some Yr 1-3 students had their 5 on the Hour conferences. I enjoyed seeing the children sharing their learning with their Mums and Dads. I heard people sharing about what they had been learning, what they are proud of and about what they are working on. There was a great buzz in the rooms!

Kia Kaha
Mr Marty and Mr Roy started our Bible in School programme for the year with lots of fun! Kia kaha!
El Gregoe
El Gregoe's performance on Tuesday sounded very exciting! It has been great to hear so many people talking about what they learned from it. He shared some good strategies for dealing with bullying.
Did you work out how he did some of his tricks? The teachers were watching closely but haven't been able to!
