Book Donations

It was very special to go with four school councillors to Ronald McDonald House and the playroom of the Children's ward at the hopsital to give them the books that had been donated for our Book Character Day. They were so excited to receive so many lovely books!

Part of Ronald McDonald House has been damaged in the earthquakes so they are only using half of the building. We got to see a room where families living at the house stay and a lounge and kitchen area. The room was just like a hotel room with a double and single bed, a bathroom and a place to make cups of tea.

At the hospital the nurse and play specialists were very excited to have some lots of new books to share with the children who are in hospital. They were looking froward to having some new stories to read! They were overwhelmed with everyone's generosity!

Thank you everyone - you have made some sick children's day!

Book Character Day

What a fun way to come back to school after the earthquake. Everyone made such a big effort to dress up and looked great. Some people must have spent a lot of time getting ready.
It was very strange to meet with a new family looking like I did!

Writing

Over the last week I have enjoyed visiting classes and interviewing students about writing. It has been interesting to see the writing people are proud of and what they have been learning. It is important that we have a purpose for writing and an audience. Blogs are a great way of sharing ideas for others to read and comment on. Feedback on the things we do well and what we need to do to get better really help our writing. What types of writing do you enjoy doing? I'd love to hear your comments and ideas.
